2017 BAGS Florida 72 Hole Championship

December 6 - December 11, 2017

Our Florida event is a terrific getaway just before winter sets in. Contested on four, superb championship courses. Condo's or the hotel is conveniently located close to all the tournament sites, Disney World and other area attractions. 8:00 AM shotgun starts each morning will allow sufficient time for afternoon replays at reduced rates. Daily high temperatures in Orlando in early December are usually in the mid to upper 70's.  Last year our tournament field was about 60 players, including 32 from our division.

Wednesday, Dec 6

Optional - Practice Round:

Eagle Creek GC

tee times starting at 12:00
Thursday, Dec 7

Optional practice round:

Providence GC

tee times starting at 9:30

Friday, Dec 8 PROVIDENCE GC 8:00 shotgun

Designed by renowned golf course architect Mike Dasher, Providence GC will test your game and soothe your senses as it winds its way through land featuring freshwater creeks, ancient hardwoods, and wetlands. It is not unusual to get a glimpse of otters, deer, wild turkey, or other Florida wildlife during your round. Dasher has an affection for European style courses, and this is evident on many of his unique, undulated greens.

Saturday, Dec 9 Magnolia GC at Walt Disney World 8:00 shotgun

Named for its majestic magnolia trees, this course features elevated tees, spacious greens and challenging water hazards. Wide fairways invite you to hit the ball and hit it long, but beware—11 of the 18 holes boast water hazards and 97 bunkers dot the landscape.

Suggested Saturday evening activity will be our group dinner get together

PGA TOUR HISTORY ON THE MAGNOLIA AND PALM COURSES:

The Walt Disney World Golf Classic was played on the Palm and Magnolia courses. It was played under several names, reflecting sponsorship changes.

The tournament was founded in 1971 as the Walt Disney World Open Invitational. From 1974 to 1981, the tournament was played as a two-man team event with a better-ball format. From 2007 to 2012, it was the final event in the PGA Tour Fall Series, and also the final official event of the PGA Tour season. As such, it was a final chance for many players to earn or retain a PGA Tour card through winning or getting into the top 125 on the Tour's money list. Winners of this event have included Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Davis Love, Raymond Floyd, Vijay Singh, David Duval, Mark O'Meara, Luke Donald, Jeff Maggert, and Lucas Glover.

The tournament was removed from the PGA Tour schedule for the 2013–14 wrap-around season after Children's Miracle Network declined to renew their sponsorship.

Sunday, Dec 10 Palm GC at Walt Disney World

8:00 shotgun

This 18-hole championship course features shimmering lakes, tropical sands, palm trees and sloping greens. Disney’s Palm Golf Course is rated 4 stars by Golf Digest and includes 9 holes with water hazards and 59 bunkers—providing plenty of challenges for novices and seasoned pros alike.  Disney’s Palm Golf Course was completely redesigned by Arnold Palmer Course Design in 2013.

Monday, Dec 11 Eagle Creek GC 8:00 Shotgun

Designers Ron Garl and Howard Swan have blended some unique Florida concepts along with waste areas to successfully create a course unlike any other in Central Florida. The concept of the course design at Eagle Creek is deeply rooted in the tradition of the game, inspired by the classic architectural forms and nuances of the Old World links.  The compact greens, the rectangular tees as well as the style of many of the bunkers is truly traditional and essentially British and makes Eagle Creek stand apart.
